What is the UCS Free Dental Program?
The UCS Free Dental Program is a collaboration between the National Health Security Office (NHSO) and participating private dental clinics. The program aims to increase access to dental care and reduce waiting times for UCS members. Under the “One ID Card, Treatment Everywhere” concept, eligible individuals can use their Thai national ID card to receive basic dental services for free, without any upfront payment.
Conditions and Benefits of the UCS Free Dental Program You Should Know
UCS members are eligible for up to three free dental visits per fiscal year (October 1st – September 30th), with one treatment per visit. For instance, if you have three cavities, you will need to schedule three separate appointments.
The covered services include:
- Oral examination
- Teeth scaling (cleaning)
- Fillings
- Tooth extractions
- Fluoride application
- Sealant application
Treatments not covered by this scheme, such as root canals or wisdom tooth surgery, will be charged at the clinic’s standard rates.
Which Dental Treatments are Covered by the UCS?
Here are the 5 basic dental services you can receive using your ID card:
1. Teeth Scaling (Cleaning)
Receive a free teeth cleaning once per fiscal year. This standard procedure removes plaque and tartar, which are the main causes of gum disease and cavities. Regular scaling helps maintain oral hygiene, reduces bad breath, and prevents dental diseases. Please note that this does not cover deep cleaning or root planing for severe gum disease.
2. Tooth Extractions
Yes, you can get a tooth extraction under the UCS. The scheme covers one extraction per visit. This service is for teeth that are severely decayed, infected, or cannot be saved, as determined by the dentist. It does not cover complex extractions, impacted wisdom teeth, or surgical extractions. Patients should provide their full medical history before the procedure.
3. Fillings
The program covers one filling (one surface) per visit. We offer both amalgam (metal-colored) and composite (tooth-colored) fillings, based on the dentist’s recommendation. This service helps restore decayed teeth to their normal function and prevents further decay that could lead to root canals or extractions. The benefit does not cover temporary or complex fillings.
4. Fluoride Application
This preventive service helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. It is often recommended after other treatments are completed or for patients with good oral health. Fluoride application is suitable for all ages, especially children and those at high risk of tooth decay. This service can be redeemed as one of your three annual visits.
5. Sealants
Dental sealants are a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of molars to prevent decay in the deep grooves that are hard to clean. This benefit is available for children under 15 years old for their permanent first and second molars. Sealants are a highly effective way to prevent cavities in newly erupted teeth.

- Check Your Eligibility: You must be a registered member of the Universal Coverage Scheme (UCS). You can verify your eligibility through the “Pao Tang” application (in the health wallet section), the NHSO website, or our staff at XDC Dental Clinic can check for you with your ID card.
- Book an Appointment: Due to the high demand for UCS dental services, we recommend booking your appointment in advance to minimize waiting times.
- Verify Your Identity: On the day of your appointment, you must present your national ID card for verification. For children without an ID card, a copy of the birth certificate can be used. You can also use the “Pao Tang” app to present your digital identity to our staff.
- Receive Treatment: During your first visit, our dentist will perform a comprehensive oral examination and assess your risk for cavities. You will then receive the appropriate treatment, such as a cleaning, filling, or extraction. Remember, you are entitled to up to three such visits per fiscal year.
